Abstrak
This research is performed due to the presence of gap between the ideal condition expected in the application of
thematic learning and the reality condition in the field. Ideally, based on critical analysis and literary study, the process
of learning should be able to stimulate the intellectual, emotional, as well as religious intelligence. This is reasonable
considering that one of the functions of education is to enlighten the life of nation, of which the message is stipulated in
the preamble of the 1945 Constitution. In order to achieve the objective of enlightening the life of nation, the function of
education is reflected in chapter 31 of the constitution, which says that every citizen deserves education and teaching;
and that the government provides a system of national education. One of the national policies applied today is the
Competence Based Curriculum, in which, with pedagogical and psychological consideration, the learning process in
early grades would better be conducted by means of thematic learning approach. Another finding from literary study is
that every individual has eight kinds of intelligences or multiple intelligences that have to be developed in early ages.
Whereas, from the viewpoint of the learning condition in the field, teachers have not seemed to understand very well
about how to carry out thematic learning and which learning process that is able to develop such intelligence. The
problem of this research, therefore, is to find a thematic learning model that is able to develop the multiple intelligences
of the students’.
According to the above background of the problem, this research is purposed to produce a thematic learning model
which is conducive to increase the development of the students’ multiple intelligence. The research method used to
produce such output is research and development method. And the process includes 4 steps, they are: (1) preliminary
study, which covers field and literary study, (2) planning of the development of learning model and its system, starting
from curriculum analysis, program design, and planning the learning activities, (3) developing learning model, which
covers the phase of limited try-out in microteaching, a larger try-out to produce the final design of the learning model,
and (4) validity test, to find out the conclusion of the validity test result.
In the phase of developing the try-out for learning model, an action research design is used, which is then continually
evaluated and followed by some reflection for the improvement and modification for the next action. From the result
of the try out, a product of thematic learning model with the design of quantum teaching scenario is finally obtained. It
requires a validity test with an experimental research design, which involves experimental group and control group, to
observe the advantages of the learning model. The result of the validity test is then analyzed with the t-Test statistic
and ANOVA test to compare the scores obtained by the two groups, including the scores of the early assessment,
which is compared with the assessment scores during and after the thematic learning and their influence towards the
development of multiple intelligences of the students’.
The validity test finally results in a conclusion that thematic learning model with the design of quantum teaching
scenario is effective in developing the multiple intelligences of the students’. These multiple intelligences, which cover
linguistic intelligence, mathematic logic intelligence, physical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal
intelligence, musical intelligence, and natural intelligence, of the experimental group increase significantly at the Sig.
(2-tailed) significant rate, compared either within the group or with the control group. The advantages of thematic
learning model with the design of quantum teaching scenario provide theoretical and practical implications. The practical
implication is that the teacher is required to be innovative and creative in facilitating the learning process of the students.
While the theoretical implication is that the thematic learning will be more effective if the teacher can be a quantum
teacher.
