This study aims to develop a model of guidance and counseling are effective in fostering self-direction skills to increase high school students' learning effectiveness. The research process Research and Development approach is implemented in three stages, including: (a) assessment of the concept and study of needs (needs assessment) about the importance of self-direction skills development, (b) the formulation of a hypothetical model of counseling self-direction, and (c) reliability testing and dissemination of models of counseling self-direction. The second phase of the study tested the hypothetical model of Self-Direction Skills Development, which proved empirically using counseling approaches can foster the development of self-direction skills of students, including: initiative, autonomy, flexibility, and responsibility. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model bimbingan dan konseling yang efektif dalam menumbuhkan kecakapan pengarahan diri guna meningkatkan efektivitas belajar siswa SMA. Proses penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development yang dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahap, meliputi : (a) pengkajian konsep dan studi kebutuhan (need assessment) tentang pentingnya pengembangan kecakapan pengarahan diri, (b) perumusan model hipotetik konseling pengarahan diri, dan (c) pengujian kehandalan dan diseminasi model konseling pengarahan diri. Penelitian tahap kedua menguji Model Hipotetik Pengembangan Kecakapan Pengarahan Diri, yang terbukti secara empirik dengan menggunakan pendekatan konseling perkembangan dapat menumbuhkan kecakapan pengarahan diri siswa, meliputi : inisiatif, otonomi, fleksibilitas, dan tanggung jawab.
