The character of Indonesian becomes a matter of concern recently. The underlined problems characterized by the Indonesian’ life phenomenon that are currently moving backward from its various strata. The weakening character-strength is allegedly sourced from the educational strength in school contexts. Hand in hand, the quality of teachers or educators or facilitators take an important role. Therefore, various attempts have been made by the government. Unfortunately, the synergy of the implementation of all aspect considered unsatisfied in pursuing optimal impacts. There are three main aspects that should be implemented simultaneously, teaching materials, learning models, and learning assessment. The implementation of the character-values in each of the field of study have been obvious for the first two aspects (teaching materials and learning models), but for the learning assessment is not yet integrated. Portfolio assessment is a classroom-based assessment that collected a set of learners’ work during a certain period of time and is used to monitor the progress of learners in certain subjects. The implementation of portfolio assessment can be integrated into the learners’ character values in learning the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
