According to interview, researcher as facilitator at RSBI SMK (Technical and Vocational School) on west Sumatra have found too many spent time of teacher to assess student achievement. So that, teacher must be combination of learning and assessment. SMKN Sumatra Barat demands a better learning process than the ones of common schools. To meet such demand, teachers should prepare teaching sets which are in line with the goals of SMK as well as the characteristics of students, and the subject itself. On the other side, the subject itself –in this case, ‘final drive maintenance’ demands the teachers to develop problem solving skills. Problem Based Learning is one choice that can be applied by automotive teachers. This research is aimed at producing Problem Based Learning automotive teaching and portfolio assessment set on Final drive of rear axle maintenance for Grade XI of TKR (small engines field study) of SMK. This research is a Developmental Research applying model 4-D. The stages of the research cover defining, designing, developing and disseminating. Subject of research is Automotive Teaching and Portfolio assessment set, and research object is teacher and student. The research instruments were Questioners on Lesson Plans validation, Student Job sheet validation, Teacher Responds, Student Responds, Test Results, Observation sheets on Student Academic Attitude and Observation sheets on Student Academic Performance. The data analysis technique used was a descriptive statistic as the tool to find out the mean and validity percentage, the practicality and the effectiveness of the teaching set.The result of data analysis shows that the developed Lesson Plan and Job sheets are very valid. The answers to the Questioners on Teacher Responds and Student Responds show that the developed Lesson Plan and Job sheets are practical. The results of Test, Observation sheets on Student Academic Attitude and Observation sheets on Student Academic Performance show that the developed Lesson Plan and Job sheets are effective. This research has produced a valid, practical and effective Problem Based Learning oriented teaching set for Technical and Vocational School on Final drive of rear axle maintenance.
