Based on the annual report of the UNESCO Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2012, education in Indonesia was rated 64th out of 120 countries worldwide. This shows that the quality of education in Indonesia today, is quite alarming. One way to improve the quality of education in a country is among others, the implementation of teaching approach at every level of education. Specifically on basic education, skills process approach is one of the common approaches applied to science teaching. The use of this approach is aimed to improve the effectiveness of student learning of science subjects. The application, is an effort to improve the quality of science teaching and in primary schools. This paper is an affort to motivate teachers in carrying out his duties as a professional educator or teacher . It includes three issues: (1) Professionalism, (2). characteristics of effective science teaching , and (3) skills process approach as an effort to improve the quality of science teaching. Conclusions drawn are: (1) professional teachers should be able to be a good role model for subject, e.g: his/her mastery of science, skill, discipline, responsibility, and personality that includes moral and social values, (2 ) learning science is learning is the phenomena leaning of the universe observation and experimentation through a scientific procedures, (3) skills process approach is an effective learning approach that can improve the quality of Sciences Learning.
