Abstrak
Schamacker dan Lomax (1996: 49-50) menyatakan bahwa: "SEM typically consist of two parts: the measurement model, and the structural equation model. The measurement model specifies how the latent variables or hyphotetical contracts are measured in terms of the observed (measured) variables and describes their measurement properties (realibility and validity). The structural equation model specifies the direct and indirect relationships among the latent variables is used to the amount of explained and unexplained variance."
Dalam model tersebut terdapat dua permasalahan penelitian utama yang hendak dijawabnya yaitu: Pertama masalah pengukuran, yang disebut sebagai measurement model atau descriptive model (Ferdinand, 2002). Dalam konteks inilah, maka APPS sering disebut sebagai confirmatory factor analysis atau covariance structure analysis (Schumacker dan Lomax, 1996; Long, 1983). Kedua, masalah hubungan struktural ^structural relationships/ Masalah kedua ini disebut sebagai structural model. Karena itu maka APPS sering juga disebut sebagai LIniear Structural RELationship (LISREL), atau latent variables analysis (Duncan, 1975; Loehlin, 1992).
