This article is entitled "Improving the Historical Comprehension through Intensive Reading Method SQ3R Techniques in Learning History (Class Action Research in X IIS 2 SMAN 23 Bandung)". This research was carried out by using one of the techniques of learning that makes students more active by reading. The purpose of the research is to increase the students' understanding of history through intensive reading activity. Currently, reading culture among students is still relatively low. Students prefer the oral tradition by listening material explanation of the teacher, rather than having to read the source book or textbook so the role of teacher was made more active in the learning activities (teacher centered). Students' understanding of the material is also said to be low because students are less able to explain and understand the material contained in the text after reading. The research method used is the method of classroom action research using Kemmis and Taggart model design. Kemmis and Taggart model design consists of four phases: plan, act, observe, and reflect. In this study, the researcher used intensive reading methods SQ3R techniques. SQ3R learning technique includes reading technique coined long ago, so the technique is the basis for the birth of other learning methods. Based on the research conducted, the implementation of intensive reading methods SQ3R technique can enhance students' understanding of history. However, the increase experienced at the end of the cycle is not too significant because of some obstacles. Thus, it can be a recommendation for teachers and schools to develop the learning that can increase students' interest in reading.
