KESENIAN JAIPONGAN: Sebuah Revolusi Dalam Seni Gerak Tahun 1970-2010

Jaipongan arts in West Java is a modified version of the traditional art forms of various kinds of art. In about the year 1970-1980, people prefer art-art that comes from European-Americans, because people assume that traditional art is very boring and seem ancient or "conservative" is not in accordance with the conditions at that time. This condition is then made by the artists who pioneered Gugum Gumbira to make changes in traditional Sundanese dance that re-loved by the society is not limited to certain class. Changes made by Gumbira Gugum in Ketuk Tilu dance is to change the function of dance which was originally a part of the traditional ritual into an art tradition that emphasizes entertainment be adapted to the mindset and needs of the society at that time, so was born a new art that is Jaipongan. The presence Jaipongan art is not necessarily widely recognized, even had the hindrance of various class including local government of West Java with the term 3G (Goyang, Geol, Gitek) which is characteristic of Jaipongan
