This researchbegan withproblem that foundbyresearcher inof teaching history, that is critical thinking skills of students are lessfacilitatedin learninghistory. It isseen from the conditiondiscussionmethodof teaching historyinclass XMIA8 SMA Negeri 24 Bandungwhich emphasizespresentationof facts, concepts, events, characters, spaceandtime. This willresultof teaching historyis only limitedability to recallthatlow capability. This research usedqualitative approach carried in fourstages, that wasplan, act, observe, andreflect. The problem formulation were, (i) Howplanningmethod of debateto improvecritical thinking skillsof studentsat SMA Negeri24BandungClassXMIA8? (ii) Howto implementmethod of debate toimprovecritical thinking skillsof studentsat SMA Negeri24BandungClassXMIA8? (iii) How the result of attempt to improve critical thinking skills by using the method of debate in SMA Negeri 24 Bandung class X MIA 8? (iv) How to attemp overcome inhibitions in implementation method of debate to improve critical thinking skills of students at SMA Negeri 24 Bandung class X MIA 8? Researchers used data collection techniques of observation, interviews, documentation, and field notes. Based onthe observation ofcriticalthinking skills of students showedcritical thinking skillsin theteaching of historyin classX MIA 8can beincreased. This isseenfromsignificant improvement, bothin the process ofdebateanddiscussionbefore thedebateof studentswere able toarguebased onindicators ofcritical thinking skills. This is evidenced bythe increaseofcycle1 tocycle3anddeclineincycle4whichshowedsaturation point. Based on these results, it can be concludedthe critical thinking skills of students can beimproved inthe teaching of historyby using themethod of debateinclass XMIA8. Learninghistorybyusing themethod of debate can beapply by consideringthe condition ofthe class, the characters of students, andcreativityof teacher. Moreover, the results ofthis researchcanbe asuggestionfor theteachers andthe schoolin creating alearning environmentthatprovides opportunitiesforstudentsto developcritical thinking skills.
