ABSTRACT
Abdul Muis was a national hero who lived during the National Movement. Besides being known as a politician who take part in the Sarekat Islam (SI), Abdul Muis also known as a writer who produced influential works in the National Movement. Development of literature in the National Movement is the beginning of the development of modern Indonesian literature. The work of Abdul Muis an impact on the development of modern Indonesian literature, in terms of language, the theme, and the social reality that is expressed in his work. During National Movement Abdul Muis produced four major works are the novels titled Salah Asuhan, Pertemuan Jodoh, Surapati, Robert Anak Surapati. In the fourth novel of social reality contained a lot going on in the National Movement. Sociological approach used to reveal how literary background Abdul Muis to insert a social reality in his work.
